Answers to your top fueling questions—all in one place.
Getting started
How to use your WEX fuel card at the pump.
- Insert or swipe your WEX card
- Enter your Driver ID
- Enter your vehicle’s mileage (if required)*
- Fuel up and go
*Note: Some companies require mileage to be entered for reporting purposes. If you’re unsure whether this is necessary, please check with your manager.
Driver IDs and why you need them.
Your Driver ID is a unique code that links you to every transaction you complete. Your company uses it to track fuel activity, and you’ll be asked for it at the pump. If your Driver ID is entered incorrectly, the transaction will be declined.
Fuel cards will come from your company.
Your company will designate a Fuel Card Manager who will provide your fuel card. This could be your manager, a fleet manager, or an office administrator who is responsible for the fuel card program.
If you don’t have your fuel card yet, you will need to contact your manager.
Will you need to enter your mileage every time you fuel up?
Some companies require it, others don’t. If you’re unsure, ask your manager or Fuel Card Manager—it could be required.
Troubleshooting
If your card is not working, here some things to consider:
- Double-check your Driver ID and mileage entry. Ensure that you have entered these details correctly.
- Ensure you’re at a WEX accepting fuel station. WEX fuel cards are accepted at 95% of U.S. gas stations. You can check the stations here or via the WEX Connect app.
If the issue persists, please contact your manager or Fuel Card Manager for further assistance. Do not use another form of payment unless instructed to do so.
To get you back on the road faster, please have this information ready:
- Station Name and Address
- The error message on the pump screen (if any)
- The Driver ID that you entered (to ensure it was correct)
I forgot my Driver ID. Can WEX give it to me?
No. Only your manager can share your Driver ID with you. For security reasons, WEX only provides this number to authorized account contacts. Please contact your manager right away. You should not use someone else’s ID.
What to do if your card has been lost, stolen, or blocked.
Contact your manager immediately so they can take action. Do not contact WEX directly unless you are an authorized user on the account.
Safety and best practices
Do not write your Driver ID on the card.
To prevent fraud, do not write your Driver ID on your card. Try to memorize your ID or write it down in a safe and separate location from where you store your card. WEX Customer Service can’t assist you in retrieving your ID. Only your Fuel Card Manager or manager can assist you.
Can someone else use your Driver ID?
No. Sharing your Driver ID could result in unauthorized purchases and may go against your company policy. It can also be seen as fraud or misuse. Keep the card and your ID separate and safe.
