Partnership Basics

What is this partnership in one sentence?

This is a referral partnership where Nuvei introduces eligible travel customers to WEX, enabling them to access faster funding, stronger working capital, and improved payment visibility through WEX virtual card settlement.

Who are WEX and what do they do?

WEX is a global financial technology company focused on B2B and travel payments. It provides virtual card issuing and settlement infrastructure that enables travel businesses to pay suppliers securely, automate reconciliation, and manage cash flow more effectively. WEX supports agencies, airlines, and intermediaries worldwide with payment technology purpose-built for the travel ecosystem.

Why did we choose WEX?

WEX brings deep travel payments expertise and global issuing scale that complements Nuvei’s acquiring capabilities. Its infrastructure provides real-time visibility into supplier settlement and a proven framework for managing funded payments at volume.

By aligning WEX’s issuing strength with Nuvei’s acquiring reach, the partnership removes friction between pay-in and pay-out flows. This allows agencies to operate with faster cash cycles, lower collateral pressure, and greater financial flexibility as they grow.

What problem does this solve for travel agencies?

Many travel agencies face delayed access to funds and high collateral requirements because acquirers lack visibility into downstream supplier payments. This partnership closes that visibility gap.

Through WEX virtual card settlement data, acquirers gain confirmation of when suppliers are paid. That transparency allows risk to be assessed more accurately, which can support improved settlement terms, reduced collateral, and higher processing capacity. The result is better liquidity and more room for agencies to scale.

Who is this not a good fit for?

The partnership delivers the greatest value to agencies facing funding constraints, high collateral requirements, or slower settlement cycles. Large, well-capitalised agencies that already benefit from favourable acquirer terms may see less incremental impact.

Value Proposition & Positioning

What is the core value proposition?

The partnership enables travel agencies to access funds faster, improve working capital, and process more volume with greater financial certainty.

What is a good sales opener?

“We partner with WEX to help travel agencies get paid faster, increase processing capacity, and free up working capital by reducing collateral and funding constraints.”

What are the key benefits?

Faster access to funds – Funds can settle directly from Nuvei’s acquiring environment into the WEX funding structure, reducing payment friction and shortening cash cycles.

Improved working capital – Greater visibility into supplier settlement may support lower collateral requirements depending on customer risk profile and more efficient use of capital.

Increased revenue opportunity – Higher processing limits help enable agencies to capture more customer demand and scale without funding bottlenecks.

How is this different from the offering before the partnership?

Previously, acquirers assessed agency risk with limited insight into downstream supplier payments. This created conservative collateral models and slower settlement cycles.

Through the partnership, WEX provides verified settlement confirmation data. That transparency allows risk to be measured more precisely, which can support improved funding terms and faster access to cash.

How does this compare to issuer-acquirers?

Issuer-acquirers combine issuing and acquiring within a single organisation. While structurally integrated, that model limits customer choice.

The Nuvei and WEX partnership delivers comparable alignment between pay-in and pay-out flows while preserving the strengths of a specialist acquirer and a specialist issuer. This approach provides flexibility, global reach, and commercial competitiveness without locking customers into a single provider ecosystem.

Product, Features & Scope

What is included in the partnership?

The partnership combines Nuvei acquiring with WEX virtual card issuing through a secure visibility layer powered by Actuary technology. With customer consent, settlement confirmation data is shared so Nuvei can confirm when supplier payments are completed.

This visibility allows more accurate collateral and funding decisions. No additional integrations are required beyond standard virtual card enablement.

Nuvei may also settle funds directly into the WEX funding structure, removing transfer steps and accelerating cash flow. Nuvei additionally supports continued supplier acceptance of WEX virtual cards through its travel relationships.

What does the customer need in place?

Customers only need to be enabled for WEX virtual card payments. No new systems or custom integrations are required beyond standard setup.

Which regions are supported?

The partnership currently supports North America, with planned expansion into additional regions over time.

Commercials & Pricing

How is pricing structured?

Pricing is aligned to customer volume and funding structure. For customers with annual virtual card spend below USD 15 million, standard WEX Keep pricing applies. Larger programs are commercially tailored based on expected spend and settlement model with pricing negotiated directly with WEX. Final pricing and funding terms are subject to customer risk assessment and commercial agreement.

The partnership is designed so that incentives are aligned across Nuvei and WEX. Nuvei receives a 25 bps flat referral fee that can be negotiated if the rebate to the customer exceeds 50% of the interchange rate.

Are there specific commercial levers I can use in a negotiation?

Commercial discussions are handled jointly with support from the Partnerships team to ensure pricing reflects customer scale, funding needs, and growth potential.

The primary value of the program lies in financial efficiency. Agencies gain faster access to funds, higher processing capacity, and improved capital utilisation.

Are there minimum commitments?

There is a minimum annual virtual card volume requirement of USD 3 Million to participate in the program.

The agreement also includes a customer protection period to ensure stability and continuity within the partnership framework.

Risk & Data Security

Is any data shared among parties?

Yes, but only with customer consent and only the data required to operate the program.

A limited set of virtual card authorisation and settlement confirmation data is securely shared with Actuary, an independent technology provider that supports both WEX and Nuvei. This visibility allows Nuvei to confirm when supplier payments are completed and assess funding exposure more accurately.

All data sharing complies with applicable data protection and payment security standards. No sensitive personal information is exposed beyond what is necessary to support settlement transparency.

Who are Actuary.aero?

‍‍Actuary.aero is an independent technology company providing secure payment visibility tools for travel and e-commerce businesses. Its platform enables safe, real-time settlement information sharing to improve risk transparency and credit decision-making.

Actuary has more than 15 years of experience supporting deferred delivery merchants and acts as a neutral infrastructure provider between partners.

This structure is designed to deliver funding benefits without increasing operational or compliance risk.

Customer Journey Overview

What does the customer journey look like from introduction to go-live?

Nuvei introduces interested customers to WEX via email and follows with a joint discovery conversation – face to face or via online meeting – confirms fit and funding structure.

For clients with annual virtual card spend above $15 million, WEX will manage the issuing sales discovery, commercial negotiation, contracting, and onboarding (including Compliance due diligence, credit approval and implementation).

For clients with annual virtual card spend below $15 million, Nuvei will manage the issuing sales discovery, commercial negotiation, contracting, and WEX will manage the onboarding. In this case however, customers will be offered standard pricing and commercial, and legal terms.

Customers complete account setup, select funding structure, and enable virtual cards without additional integrations.

Do customers need credit and compliance diligence?

Yes. WEX provides funded infrastructure – standard financial institution checks apply. Customers provide collateral, select settlement cycles, and complete documentation to enable funded payments.

What documentation is needed for Credit and Compliance diligence?

Compliance documentation

  • Beneficial ownership form (Docusign)
  • Consent to share settlement data with Actuary

Credit Risk documentation (Flexible / Hybrid only)

  • Registered Account form (Docusign)
  • 3 months of bank statements
  • Supporting financial information if required

What is a Flexible Funding or Hybrid account? How does it work?

A Flexible Funding account is a credit facility secured by customer collateral. Available credit adjusts automatically in line with the collateral balance, allowing customers to increase or decrease spending capacity while using capital efficiently.

A Hybrid account combines a traditional credit line with Flexible Funding. Customers have a pre-approved credit limit and can also deposit collateral to increase their available spending. From a spend perspective there is no distinction between credit and collateral funds. Available balance updates in real time and customers can spend up to their total available limit.

Both structures are designed to give agencies predictable funding capacity while maintaining flexibility as volumes change.

How long does onboarding take?

Onboarding typically takes 2 to 6 weeks depending on customer readiness and documentation. WEX’s Customer Solutions team guides customers through each stage to keep onboarding efficient and on track to go-live.

Who supports the customer day to day?

Nuvei supports acquiring services. WEX supports issuing and virtual card services. Each company remains accountable for its platform.
